Steve Parry BA MA MIFA - Principal Archaeologist

Steve gained his BA in Archaeology and Medieval History from Lancaster University and his MA in Archaeological Method from Southampton University.
His professional career began in 1982 as a supervisor excavating the Saxon Palaces in Northampton for the Northampton Development Corporation. He joined Northamptonshire County Council to supervise the extensive open area excavations at Ashton Roman town, Oundle. From 1985 until 1993 he was the Project Officer in charge of the Raunds Area Survey, a major archaeological landscape survey that provided the context for the excavations of the Raunds Area Project, and soon to be published as a monograph. In 1993-4 he conducted the archaeological excavation of the Privy Garden at Hampton Court and was a member of the Research and Design Team which guided the subsequent restoration of the garden. Following this, Steve joined the management team responsible for the wide range of projects carried out by NA, and became the Principal Archaeologist in 1998.
Steve now provides the technical direction to the core-staff of 20, plus temporary staff, and sets the working standards for the organisation. He holds a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety issued by the National Examination Board for Occupational Health and Safety, and acts as a Safety Advisor for Services Northamptonshire.
Chris Burgess PhD - Senior Archaeologist

Chris obtained his PhD in archaeology from the University of Edinburgh with a dissertation on Lewis: Mesolithic to Modern, A study of settlement and site distribution in the Western Isles of Scotland.
His career began in 1989-1996 as a self-employed archaeological surveyor and draughtsperson working for the University of Edinburgh Archaeology Department, directing various projects as part of the Calanais Archaeological Project in the Western Isles. These included landscape surveys for the West of Lewis, Garenin and Uig, as well as excavation at Bostadh on Bernera. During this time he was also teaching honours classes in archaeological survey for the Department. Chris also worked for the National Trust for Scotland on projects including the gardens at Castle Fraser and Crathes Castle and also for Strathclyde Council at Chatelherault, the hunting lodge of Hamilton Palace. From 1996-1997 Chris was the Surveyor for AOC (Scotland) Ltd. He has also worked on excavations in Portugal and Sardinia.
Chris joined NA in 1998 as Senior Archaeologist providing technical direction to the staff, and has been responsible for the upgrading of the computer and survey systems in use by NA.
